About this mezcal

Del Maguey VIDA Puebla is a 40% ABV edition Single Village Mezcal made using artisanal methods in a state-of-the-art palenque near the base of the volcano Popocatépetl. According to Del Maguey: This expression brings the heritage of Vida Clasico from San Luis del Rio, Oaxaca, to Axocopan, Puebla. Ripe agaves from Puebla are roasted underground, naturally fermented, and double distilled in copper stills. Notes from the back label: Nose of bright fruit and florals with a soft texture, a hint of green herbs, poblano peppers and savory notes of roasted agave.

Unlike Vida Clasico made in San Luis del Rio, Oaxaca, this edition of VIDA is produced in the neighboring state of Puebla.

Del Maguey Mezcal

Del Maguey (pronounced ma–gay), Single Village Mezcal was founded in 1995 by internationally renowned artist and Mezcal visionary, Ron Cooper. Ron introduced the world to previously unavailable 100% certified organic, artisanal Mezcal produced the original handcrafted way. Through deep cultural relationships with Zapotec Mexican Indian producers in the remote villages of Oaxaca, Mexico, Del Maguey harnesses ancient, original organic processes. Combining these methods with varying micro-climates and terroir gives each creation its own unique, rich, sweet and smoky character. Every product in their collection is made by individual family palenqueros (producers) in old-style villages. They are the first producer to credit each product after the village where our liquid is made. When you see their beautiful green bottles you know it’s Del Maguey. Most of Del Maguey’s mezcals are distilled to proof, so the ABV will vary slightly between batches.

In June of 2017, international spirits company, Pernod Ricard, purchased majority stake in the company. Del Maguey is now part of their portfolio that includes Jameson Whiskey, Absolute Vodka, and Havana Club Rum.

Lovely smell – fruity (strawberry)and light. Taste is not bad at all, just super light. Some floral and more fruit on the notes…but super light. I’m sure this will be great in a cocktail…and I don’t have the OG Vida by me, but this one could be more flavorful & “complex” as well. Agree w/ Jonny that is probably just doesn’t have as much smoke as the original.

Picked it up at Costco for $27. Always looking for a solid cocktail mezcal or something to pour over ice. This is perfect. Typically grab a Legendario Domingo but finding more difficult to find. I’ll go back and stock up on these. Summer crushers!

My bottle was an absolute smoke bomb. A lot more than Vida Classico. Same vida flavor with a hint of peppers, but lots more smoke.
Mixer at best.

Very light flavor here. It does have tropical fruits and it’s sweet. Not very smokey. Would be a good alternative to regular vida for cocktails.

Lot VDP-225. Probably better in cocktails than as a sipper. Extremely meh. Light notes of tropical fruits. Not as much smoke as I remember in the Vida clasico.
