Lechuguilla

The label of Lechuguilla is a local name for distilled agave in northern Mexico. It can be confusing because it is also the name of a specific type of agave plant. A “Lechuguilla” may or may not be made from Agave lechuguilla. Agave lechuguilla (common name in Chihuahua: lechuguilla, meaning “small lettuce”) is an Agave species found only in the Chihuahuan Desert, where it is an indicator species. It typically grows on calcareous soils.
