About this destilado de agave
5 Sentidos Espadilla con Pichomel from Atelo Ramirez & Laura Arriaga was produced in the region of Los Reyes Mezontla, Puebla. Always prone to experimentation, the husband-wife duo Atelo and Laura created this unique ensamble from Pichomel harvested in Atelo’s home state of Puebla and Espadilla from Laura’s native state of Morelos. The two of them roasted, fermented, and distilled the agaves together, creating a creamy, layered and slightly spicy mezcal that pairs well with chocolate, cheese, and berries.
“La Colección Mixteca” is a curated selection of small-batch agave spirits crafted in the rustic distilleries of the mountainous Mixteca region of Oaxaca and Puebla. Each bottling explores the maestro mezcalero’s interpretation of subjecting agave endemic to the region to peculiar production methods and styles that have largely fallen out of favor in modern times. A significant portion of sales from the collection will be used for palenque improvement projects.
5 Sentidos
5 Sentidos (or Cinco Sentidos) is named after the five senses that their mezcaleros use to produce their agave spirits. The producers of this mezcal do not use any model machinery or tools, being guided only by their senses throughout the production process. The brand was launched by El Destilado restaurant in centro Oaxaca. The restaurant is known for it’s creative menu, unique cocktails, and exception agave spirits. The brand is a curated tour of Mexico with a wide range of expressions that are made by some of the best mezcaleros in the region. Cinco Sentidos is uncertified mezcal and is labeled as “Destilado de Agave”.

149 reviewsNose: this is unique for sure. Subtle herbal cheese, almost like Boursin, some nice floral elements, lavender, cream cheese, sesame seeds, vanilla beans, olive oil, such a subtle and delicate nose. Lovely stuff
Palate and finish: a clean entry of fresh bell peppers and cilantro cream cheese, the mouth feel is clean and herbal, mint, some basil, there’s some lemon and lime as you move toward the finish. Finish starts sort of sour with plenty of citrus, nice minerality sits with you for a while then grapefruit rind.
I think those who enjoy citrusy cheesy notes will love this. This is good for me but not my favorite profile The nose is terrific but palate almost too clean and straight to the point without the layers I hoped for.
