About this mezcal

The Amaras Cupreata is made with agave Cupreata that is harvested from the mountain slopes in the Rio Balsas basin. The slopes are between 4,000 and 6,000 feet above sea level and it takes the Cupreata about 13 years to mature due to the harsh climate of the region. This mezcal is made using only open-air fermentation and the fermented agave are distilled in copper. This mezcal features aromas of leather, cocoa, and toasted pumpkin seeds.

Amaras Mezcal

Mezcal Amores (Or Amaras as it’s known in the U.S.) focuses heavily on terrior and it shows in their product. Mezcal Amores believes that humans should benefit from the ecosystem by keeping it in balance. As of 2017, they had over 145,000 agave in their nurseries and they have a goal of planing ten agave for every one agave they harvest. They also promote horizontal growth of their mezcal production across several different producers and they provide micro-loans to mezcaleros who wish to upgrade their equipment.

One of my favorite Mezcals I’ve ever had. I love the earthy, vegetal notes that ring on a minty end. Picked a bottle up on a visit in Mexico City for around $550 Peso. Definitely a bottle to always have around for sipping!

lot 1-1147/1980 43% 2017 as close to a perfect mezcal as I’ve ever tasted. It is so bright and bold with distinct flavors of freshly sliced jalapeño and cumin. Big sweet nose of bell peppers and limestone after a rain. the finish lasts and lasts with an aftertaste of roasted squash. Delightful and so well worth the price.

Very unique… Very floral and earthy. Hits the side of the tounge out of the gates, then mellows out with a great finish

The agave Cupreata is a real treat. This mezcal has finesse that can’t be found elsewhere, and there’s really not a finer Cupreata at this price point. Even more expensive mezcal that use this varietal do not match its complexity. There are strong vegetal notes and hints of mint that are consistent throughout the experience and linger in the mouth. Lot 2 from 2016.

The Amores Cupreata is a very unique mezcal. There are some really nice floral, vegetal, and minty notes in this mezcal. For the price of approximately $50 USD this is a great mezcal for your collection. It goes down very easy at 40% ABV. I’m very interested to try the other offerings from Amores and from the state of Guerrero.
