About this destilado de agave
Jose “Pepe” Robledo is a fourth generation fabriquero in the village of Mazatlan, Guerrero. His fabrica is certified and his typical process is dictated by regulations he must follow to make mezcal. For this batch, Pepe took artistic liberty to play with flavors by proofing with heads and tails in order to create a spirit that exemplifies the true, flavorful nature of Agave cupreata. This 153 bottle batch was picked by the Texas Mezcal and Tequila Society Facebook group.
5 Sentidos
5 Sentidos (or Cinco Sentidos) is named after the five senses that their mezcaleros use to produce their agave spirits. The producers of this mezcal do not use any model machinery or tools, being guided only by their senses throughout the production process. The brand was launched by El Destilado restaurant in centro Oaxaca. The restaurant is known for it’s creative menu, unique cocktails, and exception agave spirits. The brand is a curated tour of Mexico with a wide range of expressions that are made by some of the best mezcaleros in the region. Cinco Sentidos is uncertified mezcal and is labeled as “Destilado de Agave”.

Papalote (A. Cupreata)
Bottle: 63/153
50.3% ABV
300 ltrs produced in Sept 2021. Bottled Dec 2021
Initial nasal impact is prickly and warming.
Aroma of tropical fruit – especially guava and mango, black licorice, honey and pickle. Dried flowers and herbal notes.
Oily mouthfeel with generous alcohol and drying.
The tropical fruit and black licorice carry over on the flavor. Pine is very noticable along with flat mineral water. Vegetal and honey on the retro nasal.
The 50.3 ABV lingers with the flat mineral water notes on a long finish.
Could be a little more balanced, as the alcohol dominates throughout, but still a nice papalote from 5 Sentidos
