Comunidad
Comunidad is a brand from Hector Vasquez de Abarca, who ran production at Los Danzantes, and Ansley Coale, importer of mezcals and raicillas since 2004 and creator of the Mezcalero brand. They collaborated on Comunidad to find, bottle, and represent superb agave spirits with the intent of helping to preserve the society and culture from which they come. Society and culture create the depth that underlies these profound human achievements, but they are threatened by rapid commercialization.

101 reviewsThis was a really good bottle. The price point is fantastic for such a complex ensamble. However, the taste wasn’t as diverse as I imagined it would’ve been with this man magueys. With that being said, I found this bottle to be really good! For me this one tasted a bit darker, with more chocolate notes coming through, which I attribute to the barril. However, def some grassy/green notes from the karwinskii dominance here. Some perfumey notes on the back end. I really dig this bottle and would recommend

Nose – Faint but sweet, springtime air; grass, cheese, honey, and some glue.
Palate – Leathery and rich; dark chocolate, red wine, cacao, grapes, ripe fruit, and a touch of citrus.
Finish – The deep richness continues; bbq pulled pork, ripe mango. A bit savory.
Great! Very rich in texture and taste; full bodied. This really grew on me as the sips progressed.

430 reviewsThis is a great batch from a true master of his craft. Don Beto makes great Mezcal and this is an especially good batch from him. It’s clean and flawless. Orange creamsicle, mango, spearmint Altoids, cherimoya, wet river rocks. It’s really well balanced and integrated so that no one flavor takes over the other. It gives me the overall impression of being tropical and minty. Like a cool breeze on a tropical island. Fantastic.

668 reviewsClassic Don Beto. Similar to his Mezcalero 11 or Papadiablo Ensamble. There is a perfumed aspect to it along with these complex notes of dried dates, wet stone minerals, slight brine, grape soda, and white Tic Tacs. My palate might be off tonight but it is a bit dry and not quite blowing my mind like some of this other releases. I will update this next time I taste it.

736 reviewsExtraordinary spirit! I’ve had a lot of mezcal from Don Beto, but very seldom an Ensamble, and never an Ensamble with this many magueys. The spirit however is right in line with all of his single varietal expressions. The nose is squeaky clean with some hints of orange, cantaloupe, spearmint, and a touch of anise. The palate is minty!! Doublemint gum is the first thing that comes to mind, as it has a minty sugary sweetness. The additional depth goes into some bright tropical fruits, with a medium finish. Awesome.
