El Recuerdo de Oaxaca Joven is made in a modern production facility in Tlacolula, Oaxaca.
About this mezcal
El Recuerdo de Oaxaca Joven is made with agave Espadin. This mezcal is not made at a traditional palenque, but instead at the largest, most modern distillery in all of Oaxaca. This distillery’s goal is to “create the cleanest mezcal ever produced,” using the most modern technology, machinery, and tequila-like production methods.
El Recuerdo de Oaxaca Mezcal
El Recuerdo de Oaxaca Mezcal is produced by Casa Armando Guillermo Prieto, which also produces Zignum Mezcal. El Recuerdo is probably most well-known in the US due to it’s affiliation with MMA Fighter, Jorge Masvidal, who is responsible for launching the brand in the US. Masvidal states he got into mezcal about five years ago. While he’ll shoot it if the time is right, he prefers to sip it while eating oranges slices dipped in sal de gusano.

23 reviewsGot this mezcal from our mezcal tour guide who’s one of its producers. I think this is a pretty simple/cheap espadin that’s easy to find in many places in Oaxaca. Smells pleasant, sweet toasted agave notes. Very mild on the tasted, some subtle grass, slightly more on the sour/salty side than sweet. This drinks like water. Almost no viscosity.
