About this destilado de agave
Gusto Historico Tequilero was produced by maestro mezcalero Victor Ramos in Miahuatlan, Oaxaca. The use of maguey Tequilero is rare in Oaxaca with this agave being much more widely used for Tequila production in states like Jalisco. Victor single-distilled this mezcal in a copper refrescadera still. The town of Mengoli de Morelos where he lives and works alongside his son Emanuel has a population of just under 200 people.

The brand was started by one of the co-founders of famed Oaxacan mezcaleria Mezcaloteca, and the Gusto Histórico brand features many of the same producers, with a focus on preserving traditional production methods and practices.

Nose: citrus mainly lemon lime, slightly floral, lemongrass, briney, some stone minerality
Palate & Finish: a little more going on than nose lets on. Nice lemon lime, chalky texture, sweetness that reminds me of Gatorade, tart kiwi, cake icing and menthol moving into the finish. Finish is more minerality, stone, sweet bell pepper
I like this a lot. It’s not super complex but consistent with minerality and citrus fruit from start to finish. Really easy going and agreeable Tequilero

Review #68: nose has lots of fresh flowers with some wet stone minerality. Palate has vanilla icing and cake, sweet florals, white chocolates, sweet cream, sweet spearmint and lemon oils. On the finish, there is a bit of carmelized veggies, wet minerality, and ground pepper.
This is a very pretty and aromatic expression with delicate notes that are amped up by the proof while not being hot at all. There’s a very pleasant sweetness and minerality as the base notes. Nothing too crazy happening here but it’s very well done and extremely drinkable for anyone. I’ve not really been a big fan of this kind of agave, but this is among the best of them that I have tried.
