About this mezcal

La Jicarita Pechuga is produced by Celso Martínez López in Santiago Matatlan, Oaxaca. This pechuga was made with 100% Maguey Espadin (Agave angustifolia) using a secret family recipe that includes turkey, a variety of seasonal fruits, grains, nuts and local herbs. The agaves were cooked in a conical earth oven for 3-5 days. The cooked agaves were crushed by a horse-drawn Chilean stone mill, fermented naturally for 6-15 days, and double distilled in copper pots. The raw turkey is suspended in the still during the second distillation. This mezcal has notes of minerals, mango, fennel, and black pepper.

La Jicarita Mezcal

La Jicarita Mezcal is a product of Frijolotes LLC, a spirit import and worldwide distributing company. The company specializes in handcrafted small-batch mezcal produced with traditional methods passed down for generations. The company has worked the regulatory and logistical hurdles to assemble a supply chain into the heart of Mexico. The founders, Young Jung & Fred Baptista, met in the art department at San Francisco State University in 1997 and the idea for this company began in 2006 when the pair drove through Mexico for 30 days with a group of college friends. 11 years later the company began after a night of mezcal drinking with the mission to bring back a little piece of awesomeness from Mexico to share with everyone.

La Jicarita Pechuga Mezcal. Distilled with a turkey breast. Conical oven, Stone Mill, fermented in pine vats, copper pots. Lot number P0001.

Tastes of jelly beans, mint. Subdued smoke, No clear evidence of the turkey in the distillation. I thought it was OK, and it is reasonably priced for a pechuga. However not sure I would buy it again, as this isn’t really what I’m looking for in a pechuga.

What a delightful Pechuga. Delicious bubble gum on the nose. I second both Jonny and Tyler’s herb/botanical on the palate, think Aquavit with bananas and cherries. Long lasting burning finish. I plan on stocking up on this fine mezcal.

Rich and full aromas of juniper and gin botanicals, plantains, big red bubble gum, and sweet bell peppers. The palate is equally as full. Crazy flavors all over the palate. Tons of herbs and spices, spearmint, Rosemary, mole, bubble gum, with a white onion finish. This is very enjoyable.

Wild aromas. Like Big League Chew bubble gum and mole. Herbal on the palate. Gin and tonic. Viscous. Warm finish.
