About this mezcal

La Luna Chino is made with wild agave Cupreata. The agave used in this mezcal are all capon, meaning that they were castrated and left in the field for an extended period of time before being harvested. The agave cooked for 168 hours, rested for 144 hours after cooking, and fermented for 240 hours.

La Luna Mezcal

La Luna Mezcal is made in Etucuaro, Michoacan. Tucked away in this mountainous region is the municipality of Villa Madero, which is the home to the Perez Escot family and Destiladora Las Azucenas.  The family has been traditionally crafting mezcal on the same property since 1910 and is currently on their 4th generation of mezcaleros with Isidro Perez Escot training his son Amador at the moment.

Went on a limb and gave this one a shot and kind of wish I wouldn’t have. I wasn’t really too impressed by this expression and there are some light fruit flavors and the pink lemonade that others mentioned was somewhat present but I think the smokiness overpowered this one. I think if the smoke was more of a flavor and less of a burn, I would’ve been more into it but I’d prefer to grab something else in the future!

Review #22: airy and flowery especially on the nose. Taste has some bell pepper and soft jalapeno, more lime and peach cobbler, then on the finish is light milk chocolate, and reminiscent of brown butter cookies with a pinch of salt on them that my partner makes.

Really loving the evolution this takes from the nose to the palate, and i love when a mezcal has that pretty nose that reminds you of fresh flowery air.

Nose: Cotton candy, carmel, brown butter,
Palate: heavy pine resin, grapes, vanilla, carmel. Short finish, lots of heat. Blended so that no one note takes center stage but rather a medley of flavors you have to take the time and sift through. You’re left with a nice warm smoke on the palate long after other flavors subside.

Lote 40 48.51% Aromas out of the bottle are soft fruit and very little alcohol SOFT coco and brown butter. Very clean mouth coating and buttery, pepper. No smoke incredibly smooth finish that just fades away makes you want more. I like the flavor integrations on this one nothing stands out but it just goes together really well. Once again the alcohol is well hidden

Lot 50, 48.51%

This is good, balanced smoke and pine. Mellows evenly with nice heat that is complemented by the pine overtones. I’m sipping this one next to the espadincillo, which I favor. But this is quite nice and I might have gone to 4.5 if I had tasted it alone.

Lot 40 97.02 proof

Nose: citrus, that nice lemonade quality mentioned by others, nice grassy summery bright note, light salt, everything really well blended in one pleasant experience

Palate: fruity, citrus, nice viscosity, almost a lemon berry ice box pie, seamless transition from the nose

Finish: switches into pleasant smoke, lingering notes from the palate but brought down into the earthen range which gives it some nice depth. Great bottle! Shoutout to zacks channel for the recommendation

Fragrant nose of cotija cheese, spicy green pepper, and papaya. Flavor is strawberry, fresh panela, and toasted soft wood. Full bodied and oily in the mouth. Smoke lingers a long time after the sip is gone.

Lote: 3 (Bottle: 436/645)
Nose – Huge pink lemonade blast. Melted brown sugar.

Palate – Even more, sweet and tart, pink lemonade – it’s great! The middle to finish is kind of meaty – a very smoky beef jerky. I love the bold flavors and the big, peppermint style heat. The smoke throughout is nice though, like a fine cigar and some floral notes in the aftertaste.

Lot 3. I love this!! What Jonny said about the palate was exactly my first impression, big and rich and full!! Roast agave, brown butter, walnuts, pine, raspberries, red starburst candy, anise, green bell pepper, roses, incense, and menthol cigarettes. Excellent!

Lot 3. Aromas of pink lemonade, peach, and lime. The Palate is big, rich, and full. Reminiscent of post-modern design, lemonade, and Cuban cigars.
