About this mezcal
La Medida Bicuishe is made with Maguey Bicuishe (Agave karwinskii) which is harvested from a wild, jungle environment. This agave is harvested at 1,700 meters above sea level and takes 9-10 years to reach maturity. It’s traditionally produced in Santiago Matatlan, Tlacolula, Oaxaca.
La Medida Mezcal
Mezcales La Medida brings together more than 46 Oaxacan producers. Their mezcal is made in small palenques with over 450 years of tradition and culture. The brand is run by Julián Vidal Gómez Rodríguez, who began working with mezcal over 40 years ago. Throughout his career he has worked with brands like Monte Alban, Benevá, and Del Maguey. He focuses heavily on mezcal’s mysticism and the traditional production methods that have been used for hundreds of years. Some of their mezcal is certified, while other releases go by “aguardiente de agave.” Each batch is different. Check your bottles for details.

Nose – A sharp, fresh and natural sweetness. Fresh cut grass, peanuts, soap water, vegetable greens, gas fumes, and fresh produce.
Palate – Bright, tangy and mellow. Ripe mandarins, sweet ginger candy, coconut, and those sugar-coated orange gummies from the grocery store.
Finish – A little darker and deeper after the sweetness. Grapes, raisins, white pepper, and some mesquite with a little bit of a burnt taste, like a sweet and tangy bbq sauce.
Very good! This is tasty and mellow; a perfect non-abrasive sipper. If anything to criticize, it might be a little thin, but enjoyable nonetheless.

153 reviewsNose: Slate, mineral aromas, coconut shells. I totally agree on the Juicy Fruit bubble gum! Very strange, but yes, I struggled to pinpoint the surprising fruitiness and for once looked at existing reviews before writing notes. A bit woody/nutty/fruity tingling feeling towards the finish. Light smoke, light mouthfeel. Well integrated alcohol, nice mezcal.

736 reviewsLot MIA-B1903US/2019/46.37%. Aromas of pepper, graphite, slate, sea salt, and eggplant. The palate has notes of raw honey, cantaloupe, and brown sugar. There’s a bit of heat. I typically expect quite a bit more complexity in a Bicuishe from Miahuatlan, but this is a bit thin and lacking.

668 reviewsSpicy fruit karwinskii notes. Juicy Fruit gum. Honeydew soda. 100% Bicuixe mezcals from Miahuatlan are always interesting. I’m enjoying it but it isn’t as complex as others I’ve tried. Batch MIA-B1903US from 2019. 46.37% ABV.

Nose: Gentle, lots of roots, Miahuatlan bicuishe always gives me kinda marshmallow vibes and we’re not far off here. Hamburger wrapper, lots of minerality, mild kukicha or eccentric white teas… can’t quite place it. We’ll see if the palate is a little wetter than the nose.
Palate: Watery entry, a touch of that ash, but nicely complex. White pepper spice, woody finish.
A touch dry, the lower proof I think hurts here as well. Watery, on the eccentric and austere side. I’m usually ok with that,

Rich on the palate, savory and sweet. Cream, agave syrup, pepper and some papaya. Faint smoke on the back palate, hint of minerality and a tinge of ash.
This is a real beast of a bottle – it really keeps you guessing while tossing in new notes that really work together. Big fan.

430 reviewsMIA-M1902. Salty and spicy with notes of white pepper, graphite, and cucumber. The flavors were a bit dull and muddled, not very complex. Still good though.

8 reviewsLots of papaya & vanilla on the nose. To me it has a dry start with hints of juniper before moving in to juicy green flavours with lingering oak. Gorgeous!
