La Medida Mexicano is produced by famed maestra mezcalera Berta Vasquez in San Baltazar Chichicapam, Oaxaca.
About this mezcal
La Medida Mexicano from Berta Vasquez is produced in San Baltazar Chichicapam, Oaxaca. Berta uses wild maguey Mexicano (Agave rhodacantha), which typically take between 8-14 years to mature. The agaves are roasted in an underground pit oven, milled by horse-drawn tahona, fermented in cypress vats, and double distilled in copper.
La Medida Mezcal
Mezcales La Medida brings together more than 46 Oaxacan producers. Their mezcal is made in small palenques with over 450 years of tradition and culture. The brand is run by Julián Vidal Gómez Rodríguez, who began working with mezcal over 40 years ago. Throughout his career he has worked with brands like Monte Alban, Benevá, and Del Maguey. He focuses heavily on mezcal’s mysticism and the traditional production methods that have been used for hundreds of years. Some of their mezcal is certified, while other releases go by “aguardiente de agave.” Each batch is different. Check your bottles for details.

Nose – A little fresh, but damp and a bit dirty and musty; celery, produce-section vibes, grass, fresh dirt, and the slightest eek of some sweetness in some faint piña colada.
Palate – Boom! Always a punchy opening! Very tropical and vibrant; pineapple, ripe oranges, passion fruit, mangoes, with some sweet funk like sugar cane and raw honey.
Finish – Funky, hot and long; banana, ginger, licorice, and tangy spices like cinnamon and anise… and a grassy burp on the backend.
Love this! One of my favorite bottles to have ever sampled in my lifetime. There is a funky sweetness I can’t quite put my finger on but it is absolutely compelling! This put La Medida on the map for me.
