About this mezcal
Mezcales de Leyendas Mezcales Únicos is a limited edition series of mezcal aimed at collectors or agave lovers that want to taste an agave that had never been distilled before. A significant portion of the sales go towards the cultivation and conservation of this extraordinary agave. The first edition, released in 2016, uses agave Montana, which grows wild in a hidden valley in the Sierra Madre Oriental in the state of Tamaulipas. Agave Montana is unique in that it only grows in Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon at an elevation over 2,500 meters above sea level among pine and oak trees. This agave has very distinct flavor profile, that makes it very unique from any other mezcal. It has a unique aspect when it flowers it transforms from military green color to bright orange, reds and yellows.
Leyendas Mezcal
Mezcal de Leyendas (previously labeled as Mezcales de Leyenda) believes they can improve some of the most marginalized communities in Mexico. They implement the best fair trade practices where they work, and they have many efforts in agave sustainability. Their mezcals come from the different mezcal-producing states. They also have some special edition, small-batch mezcals. The brand also releases the Pelotón de la Muerte line of mezcals.
In 2021, the brand (under Artisanal Distillates, LLC) raised money via the StartEngine platform at a $32.7 million pre-money valuation.

60 reviewsHow could I not rate this bottle 5 stars. It was not my favorite expression from Leyendas of the night but with such a cool story and rarity behind the Montana agave, it’s a bottle that is worth a try if you find it.

668 reviewsLittleArm inspired me to take the jump and try this and I’m glad I finally did. Tasted at Santo in Boulder, CO for about $42 for a 3/4 oz pour. Incredible nose. Definitely not your average mezcal. Notes of spearmint earth, nice light peppercorn, minerals, and overall greenness. That said, it reminds me of the Derrumbes San Luis Potosi which is $35/bottle. If it was more affordable my rating might be higher. Batch T(H?)RL0116.

32 reviews10/5 stars. This is the best spirit I have ever consumed. I’ve heard there are two batches and one is significantly better, but whatever I drank was the most mind blowing thing I have ever drank in my life. If you see it, drink it
