About this mezcal

Leyendas Maguey Arroqueno from Angelica Garcia Vazquez is produced in San Baltazar Chichicapam, Oaxaca. Maestra mezcalera Angelica Garcia Vazquez distills her spirits at the same palenque as her mother-in-law, Berta Vazquez. She roasts her agaves in an underground earthen oven with mesquite and oak, mills them with a tahona, ferments them in cypress wood vats, and distills them twice in small copper pot stills.

This release was a Bottle Barn Exclusive in Santa Rosa, CA.

Leyendas Mezcal

Mezcal de Leyendas (previously labeled as Mezcales de Leyenda) believes they can improve some of the most marginalized communities in Mexico. They implement the best fair trade practices where they work, and they have many efforts in agave sustainability. Their mezcals come from the different mezcal-producing states. They also have some special edition, small-batch mezcals. The brand also releases the Pelotón de la Muerte line of mezcals.

In 2021, the brand (under Artisanal Distillates, LLC) raised money via the StartEngine platform at a $32.7 million pre-money valuation.

Lot No: L2/23 Btl 106/246

Nose: Wet, freshly chopped firewood, citrus/lemon, sweet roasted bell peppers, dark chocolate, light smoke. Roasted marshmallow, cinnamon.

Palate: Vanilla, candied apple, freshly ground pepper, BBQ sauce, root beer, banana. Lemon peel, cinnamon, paprika. Just a light smattering of smokiness. Wet desert dirt. Nice viscosity, slow buildup of warmth towards the finish but well maintained, not biting hot but a smooth, savory finish.

It’s got a full-flavored aroma and taste with a smooth, lingering finish. It has some weight, a full-bodied flavor if you will, but not overbearing at all. I can easily see sipping this mezcal sitting by a fireplace on a cold, rainy winter night. Very nice.
