About this mezcal

Madre Clay Pot Ensamble is a limited release made with maguey Espadin and Cuishe. This Ancestral limited release rescues a García family tradition that had been forgotten for over forty years—distilling in clay pots. Maestro mezcalero Silverio Garcia typically distills in copper pot stills, however this batch was produced as a throwback to the distillation that his father used to do with clay pots in the 1960s and 1970s.

Madre Mezcal

Madre Mezcal is a certified Mezcal Artesenal, made by hand in the hills of Oaxaca. Madre Mezcal is produced in small batches by various mezcaleros and their families in different parts of Oaxaca::

  • Jose Ines Garcia Morales and family in San Dionisio
  • The Vasquez family in Miahuatlan
  • Carlos Blas and family in Matatlan

In 2019, Madre Mezcal raised $3 million USD in a Series A funding round led by venture capital studio, Room 9. Their portfolio includes brands such as Jot Coffee, Los Sundays Tequila, and Cleancult.

The softness and texture of the clay pot is very evident. The flavor is refined by the clay, evidencing the classic cuishe flavors but tempered by the espadin. Very drinkable and smooth, a bottle that could go very quickly!

Samples at Tortuga y Chango in Atlanta.
