Maguey Melate Largo from Antonio “Conejo” Carlos Martínez is produced in the beautiful community of Santa Catarina Minas, Oaxaca.
About this destilado de agave
Maguey Melate Largo from Antonio Carlos Martinez was released in the Maguey Melate Mix & Match store after the popularity the Barril from the same producer. The maguey Largo (agave Karwinksii) used in this mezcal were wild harvested, taking about 12 years to reach maturity.
Maguey Melate
Maguey Melate was founded on two ideas: 1) Artisanal agave spirits are amazing and should be shared with the world, and 2) The faster-cheaper economy is a harmful force for people, the environment, and now agave spirits.
They believe if mezcal (and agave spirits) can be understood and appreciated at its full potential, people will show their preference for quality artisanal mezcal that is sustainably and fairly sourced. By raising consumer consciousness on the origins of mezcal and educating enthusiasts on matters of quality and character, informed people will be empowered to ensure the future of mezcal. To do this, they’re reaching a large audience with an impactful message: KEEP MEZCAL ARTISANAL!
Maguey Melate is perhaps most well-known for their Mezcalero of the Month Club, which delivers artisanal small-batch agave spirits directly to the doors of consumers in the US and Mexico. In addition to the monthly spirits, they offer exclusive content and interviews with producers. Single releases are also available in the Maguey Melate shop.

Nose – Vietnamese beef pho. 7up soda. Alfalfa sprouts. Dry aged beef fat and pellice.
Palate – Smoked pork jerky. Honey. Black pepper heat. I love the clay in the finish.
T8ke nails this component, this is incredibly savory. Although where I differ is I find the mouth feel more on the thin side and I get an honest amount of heat for a 48% ABV. This is a bad ass mezcal!

144 reviewsBeef, salt, pepper, big garlic notes. Soapstone, honey, this is perhaps the most savory mezcal I’ve yet had. Mouth feel is rich and chewy, lots to work through. No real heat.
This is some pretty crazy stuff. It’s well made, but not my preferred profile. The clay is evident and everything is savory over drive. Wild stuff.
