Mayalen Wild Cupreata is made with wild estate-harvested Cupreata agave. At around 48% ABV it offers a middle ground between two of their other Cupreata mezcals.
About this mezcal
Mayalen Wild Cupreata is made with 100% wild agave Cupreata this is harvested on the mountaintops of the Mezcalero’s estate. The cut agave is transported down the mountain in a caravan fashion where it is cooked in an earthen oven, crushed by tahona, and then distilled in a copper alembic. This mezcal is potent with elegant herbal and citric notes and a spicy kick. There is salt on the nose with moderate notes of tropical fruit.
Mayalen Mezcal
Mezcal Mayalen proudly presents Agua de Juventud, or Water of Youth, mezcal from the mountains of Guerrero. Their products are 100% hand-crafted and organic . Like many, they believe that the climate, water, and soil conditions of the agave have a direct effect on the resulting mezcal. For this reason, their palenque is located on a site that has yearlong access to natural spring water. They have 4 different varieties of mezcal, but all are produced with the same Wild Cupreata Agave. There are slight differences in production that create different flavor notes and alcohol content for each product. Also, each lot of Mezcal Mayalen is somewhat unique. Check your bottle for details.

44 reviewsUpon my first sip of this mezcal I thought it was very hot, and found it somewhat harsh. The initial punch does fade into nice flavors of savory herbs with an undertone of smoke. Mint hangs in the finish. I will have to re-visit this one when I have more tasting experience.

668 reviewsThis cupreata is quite the palate-burner at 50.4% ABV. I can’t imagine what the Mayalen Guerrero tastes like at 54% ABV. When the spicy heat subsides there are nice notes of grape. Lot CP00313
