Metiche 49 Joven is a 98-proof mezcal made with agave Salmiana in the state of San Luis Potosi at an elevation of 6,627 feet.
About this mezcal
Mezcal Metiche 49 is produced by mezcalero Juan Manuel Pérez Juárez in Charcas, a town and municipality in the state of San Luis Potosí in central Mexico. Charcas is at an elevation of 6,627 feet. The agave Salmiana used in this mezcal grows for about 13 years on the high plateaus of San Luis Potosí. The soil, weather and excess rain, as well as the intensity of the sun in this region give the agave Salmiana and this mezcal unique and memorable flavors. Using productions methods that haven’t changed since 1870, the agaves are cooked in stone ovens. The resulting spirit is soft, not smoked. At 98-proof, Mezcal Metiche 49 is a higher-proof version of Mezcal Metiche.

149 reviewsNose: Fresh peppers, citrusy, more lime than lemon but both there, brine and minerality, sour patch lemon. After it sits a minute I get some barnyard funk.
Palate: It has this almost creaminess to it at first, like a key lime or lemon meringue, but then that dissipates quickly into a finish of bitter grapefruit, raw vegetal, green bell peppers, and earth. Finish is charred jalapeno, salted citrus and soil
Consistent Salmiana at a great price. Can’t beat that

86 reviewsI’m not a big fan of Salmiana but I keep a bottle on hand of this expression as its my favorite of the bunch and the price makes it a must try for those that love the sweet distinct green peppers and vegetal notes that dominate Salmiana. Light cheese also present but for a low price option in this space you can’t go wrong. Another great option for those that say they don’t like mezcal….

39 reviewsMeh, for me, it’s just ok. Note, however, I am not a huge fan of Salmiana from the expressions I’ve tried (they all have a bit too much of that bacon fat meets jalapeño popper flavor for my liking).
Loads of jalapeño, green bell pepper, bacon fat, and jack cheese. Moderate smoke element. Definitely spicy in the mouth. Tastes more like you are eating a meal than sipping a spirit. Overall, a solid mezcal for the price, but sadly just does not do it for me.

430 reviewsLot: 062019. I’m a fan of the Agave Salmiana Mezcals that I’ve had from San Luis Potosí and this is no exception. Spicy jalapeño and fresh green bell pepper reminiscent of Tepextate. Something very earthy like fresh potting soil. Menthol and the slightest bit of lactic flavor. At $45 a bottle this is a great deal! For those who like cocktails, this makes an excellent Mezcal Negroni.

9 reviewsThe bright just-picked green pepper notes are really pronounced in this, and the fruitiness and cooked agave sweetness round it out really well. It shows really well as a mezcal that presents a distinctly category- and region-specific profile. I greatly prefer this to the Derrumbes Salmiana from this mezcalero that comes in at 5% less ABV than the Metiche.

668 reviewsEnjoyed this mezcal a few times in San Francisco and loved it. At nearly 100 proof there is no bite to this mezcal, it’s approachable and not smoky. That said, the flavors aren’t shy. The agave Salmiana here is spicy and pronounced with notes of fresh peppers and soft fruit. Try this if you see it.
