Batch Sot 1. Aromas of cucumber, aloe, freshly cut lettuce, and bit of sweet white onion. The palate has notes of river stones, prickly pear cactus, lime, and some black pepper. I wish this was a little higher ABV, but as-is this would be a really good “intro to sotol” spirit for someone who either doesn’t sip straight spirits or isn’t familiar with sotol. Great producer and solid spirit.

Nose – White cheddar. Olive oil. Thyme.

Palate – Crispy bacon fat. Herbal. Pine sap. This is awesome! Lower ABV (42%) which usually I struggle with… but great, honest flavors at that. An easy drinking (light) sotol, haha.

This was a 1.5 oz. sample from mezcal reviewing wrecking ball, Rahkal. Lot 1.

Lot. SOT 1. Soft and light and a bit watery. The flavors are great but it suffers from the low ABV which mutes them quite a bit. Caramel, garden soil, river rocks, fresh thyme, orange candy, white cake frosting, and custard apple. This would probably be a good introduction to Sotol for people not accustomed to strong spirits or who want something “smooth”. Bienvenido is a master but I prefer his spirits a bit stronger. Still a tasty Sotol though.

Mexicat Sotol Artesanal
Batch 504 1
450 liters
Bottle 381 of 600

Nose of aloe, seasoned mesquite, and fingerling potato.

Light bodied mouthfeel, alcoholic vapors vanish quickly in the mouth.

Flavors of cactus, mesquite smoke, and citrus zest. Vegetal and smoky flavors linger in the back of the throat long after the sip is gone.

Overall a nicely made beverage. Flavorful yet subtle. A great introduction to Mexican spirits for the blended Scotch drinker on your life.
