Mezcalosfera con Mango y Chile Habanero is a small-batch traditional mezcal that was released at the same time as the Espadin con Cacao.
About this mezcal
Mezcalosfera Espadin con Cacao is made by Margarito Cortes, who comes from a family that has been producing traditional mezcal for many generations. He works closely with all of the agave that he uses for his mezcal, and he is known for experimenting with the addition of different ingredients in an extra third distillation, similar to a Pechuga. For this mezcal, he added mango and habanero during the third distillation. The agave were roasted with mezquite and encino wood. It was fermented for seven days, and distilled in a cobre con refrescadera still. There were 287 litres of this made in November 2016.
Mezcalosfera de Mezcaloteca
Mezcalosfera de Mezcaloteca is the exported bottling from Mezcaloteca, the famous bar in Oaxaca City that is renowned for their educational tastings. They source all of their agave spirits directly from producers in seldom-traveled parts of Oaxaca that are often hard to get to. They put an exceptional amount of information on their labels, and all of their releases are very small batches that exhibit the most unique characteristics of mezcal. Though only a few batches have been brought into the US, there are dozens upon dozens of different varieties available for sale at their tasting room in Oaxaca City.

Nose – mango, banana foster, whipped cream, grilled peaches, very fruity
Palate – vanilla, roasted sugar crusted mangos and peaches, roasted pineapple, creme brûlée
Finish – burnt sugar crust and vanilla, cedar, hint of chili capsaicin
This is a phenomena mezcal. Such an absolute treat all the way around. Salud!

19 reviewsTwo releases made there way into the US as of 7/20 – a 46% and 53%. I had the latter, and it was fantastic. The mango really comes through in such a unique, natural way, and the habanero adds a nice, spicy finish. Highly recommend trying this – truly one of a kind.

71 reviewsLot 03-16, distilled November 2016. I had this at speakeasy Bar Sótano in Chicago, thinking I needed to try it although I had reservations about “flavoured” mezcal. And, my, was it good! It has mango sweetness and habanero sting, but is still unmistakably mezcal. Leaves a tingling feeling on your lips. I recommend this instead of dessert after dinner. Have since had a Mezcaloteca con Mango (without the habanero) and it was equally good.

13 reviewsSpicy and sweet .. the mango is very prevalent here , the mouthfeel is creamy and soft with a fiery pop of a finish that sticks around for a bit .. great dessert libation. Another hedonistic distillate from Margarito Cortés!

47 reviewsvery good, pretty straightforward with the mango and habanero supplementing the espadin very nicely. the tingly afterburn from the habanero is an interesting note and draws out the finish in a really nice way. can’t help but feel this one’s overpriced though.

736 reviewsVERY interesting! Highly recommend trying this! The nose has hints of mango and ripe dark fruit. The palate is fruit-forward with a bit of habanero heat and a long finish that resembles a caramel glaze that could be found on a cooked pork shoulder or ham. This leaves the mouth with a slight tingling that I’ve never experienced before. Really like this!
