About this destilado de agave
Mezcalosfera Espadin Destilado con Zarazamora is made by Maestro Mezcalero Margartio Cortes in Miahuatlan, Oaxaca. This mezcal is double distilled in a copper refrescadora still. During the second distillation, blackberries are added to the distillate. This batch was produced in November of 2017, and the total batch size was just 300 litres.
Mezcalosfera de Mezcaloteca
Mezcalosfera de Mezcaloteca is the exported bottling from Mezcaloteca, the famous bar in Oaxaca City that is renowned for their educational tastings. They source all of their agave spirits directly from producers in seldom-traveled parts of Oaxaca that are often hard to get to. They put an exceptional amount of information on their labels, and all of their releases are very small batches that exhibit the most unique characteristics of mezcal. Though only a few batches have been brought into the US, there are dozens upon dozens of different varieties available for sale at their tasting room in Oaxaca City.

Had while out. Soft fruity notes. Very enjoyable to drink. Almost like a custard or berry cheesecake. I think it could be great complement to a post-dinner sip.

542 reviewsNose – I get mostly fresh roasted espadin. Red apples. Slightly funky. The blackberry is there in the background. Overall, a really nice nose though.
Palate – The mouth feel is amazing. The blackberry pops in the middle – it’s not too sweet, a little bitter actually (not quite ripe). I love the funkiness of this mezcal though to go with the fantastic agave sweetness. This is a pretty rich mezcal though, I love sipping on this but don’t think I could peg too many back to back (i.e. not crushable but better in spurts).

169 reviewsAcrid, acidic, suprisingly funky. Big blackberry flavor and dried sage, peppercorn, spearmint, ‘cheese’, poblano, tint of brazil nut. Retronasal has plum skin, vanillas, gentle allspice, agave. Smoke is present but subdued, good minerality. Entry is funky but the finish is really nice.
