NETA Bicuixe was distilled by Mezcalero Candido Garcia Cruz in the village of Logoche in Miahuatlan, Oaxaca. The maguey Bicuixe found in Miahuatlan are very similar, and perhaps even identical to what is called Tobaziche in parts of the Ejutla valley, the Tobaziche of Santa Catarina Minas, as well as the Cirial from other parts of the Central Valleys.
This 400 liter batch (BCXCAN-1804) from Maestro Mezcalero Candido Garcia Cruz is an expression of the natural elements of the region, the flavors of the plant, and the nuances imparted by its mezcalero and palenque.
NETA
NETA is a colloquial word in Mexico that translates to “the real deal” or “the truth”. Since 2012, the brand has worked closely with several small, family producers and a cooperative of twelve palenqueros from the southern valleys and hills of Miahuatlán, Oaxaca. The region has preserved its reputation for producing some of the finest mezcales and agave spirits anywhere in Mexico. The team behind NETA presents a carefully curated selection of extraordinary spirits that would otherwise never be found outside of its place of origin.
A note about NETA labels: The total bottle count written on the front label might be less than the total batch size. Batches may be split between Mexico, Europe, and the US; the handwritten bottle count represents the number of bottles imported into a particular country.

At 45% ABV, NETA Bicuixe from Candido Garcia Cruz presents a distinct profile, falling a bit shy on the intensity I prefer, yet making a bold statement with its unique flavor palate. The bright and unique character of this mezcal is well-received, unveiling a dance of candied asparagus on the tongue, a curious, yet engaging taste narrative. While not my top choice, its uniqueness captivates and adds a varied note.

Not only do I support and really admire this brand’s stand in solidarity for palenqueros who can no longer call their destilado mezcal, I am thoroughly impressed with this expression.
When I put my nose to the veladora I am transported to the beach I used to spend a lot of time at as a kid. It’s like a delightful burst of ocean water; deep and saline. This is reinforced on the palate: crisp and light saltwater with not too much heat and a semi-soft mouthfeel.
This was a very pleasant experience for me and the flavors stayed on my palate for about a half hour after tasting.
Will definitely be adding this bottle to my home collection!!

palate: green beans, honey, fresh pears, a bit of an industrial note, finishes in pear jam, drying oak, window cleaner, faint cedar
astonishingly hot for 46%. just a collage of acrid and acidic notes. generally unpleasant, and the finish lingers so long in the worst possible ways. honestly nothing comes together here. the best part is the palate and it’s at best middling. 3/10

I prefer the Bicuixe from Hermógenes but this one is decent. There is some candy cane and Cool Whip. Gives the tongue a nice tingle even at 45% ABV. Lot BCXCAN1804.

Whoah, not nearly as funky as I expected. After an intriguing nose, this hits the palate quite gently. Lots of lemon, cream cheese frosting, really effervescent lavender, some pepper and a bit of cedar. Not aggressively sour in the least, and the smoke is off doing something else – not a smoky palate at all.
This is really quite interesting. Drinking blind, I wouldn’t have any idea it is a bicuixe, but I’m a fan. While I think I give the nod to the espadin, this is very good itself.
