NETA Madrecuixe + Jabalín from Don Celso was produced in Logoche, Miahuatlán using three different types of agave.
About this destilado de agave
NETA Madrecuixe + Jabalín from Don Celso was produced in Logoche, Miahuatlán. Don Celso has experimented with Jabalín on many occasions and prefers mixing these agaves with other species. The May 2019 batch of this unique ensamble was composed of 200kg of Madrecuixe, 300kg of Jabalín, and 100kg of Coyote. The Coyote used in this batch are a hybrid species, a cross section of populations of Tobala and large Agave karwinskii plants. In Logoche, producers have recently begun cultivating Coyote, and have found that the plants often mature in just four or five years.
This experimental batch from May 2019 was selected by Astor Wines and Spirits, with 102 bottles in production.
NETA
NETA is a colloquial word in Mexico that translates to “the real deal” or “the truth”. Since 2012, the brand has worked closely with several small, family producers and a cooperative of twelve palenqueros from the southern valleys and hills of Miahuatlán, Oaxaca. The region has preserved its reputation for producing some of the finest mezcales and agave spirits anywhere in Mexico. The team behind NETA presents a carefully curated selection of extraordinary spirits that would otherwise never be found outside of its place of origin.
A note about NETA labels: The total bottle count written on the front label might be less than the total batch size. Batches may be split between Mexico, Europe, and the US; the handwritten bottle count represents the number of bottles imported into a particular country.

Tried a at a friend’s. A bit of a misfire. The nose has a faint smell chemical smoke, a bit of alcohol, and a touch of salinity/fruitiness in the backdrop once you are used to the chemical smell. The palate I found the chemical/burned plastic taste to be the primary note. Once used to that I could taste some interesting jabali notes of sweet butterscotch and a bit of the dry/minerally madre notes like lavendar and green tea – but the chemical notes overpower.
Glad I tried and didn’t buy, at this price point too expensive.

nose: quite faint, figs, isopropyl alcohol, mango, white miso, kumquat
palate: hangs with cucumber skins, peach syrup, white miso, radishes, hazelnut
a bit hot on the finish but the greatest drawback here is the faint nose and that chemical note. really a fantastic palate. 7/10
