About this raicilla
Puntagave Rustico is produced by Victoriano Joya in the coastal region of Cabo Corrientes, 700 meters above sea level. Agave Rhodacantha is roasted in an earthen pit, double distilled in a Philippino still made from copper and a hollowed-out tree trunk. The agave Rhodacantha transforms on the nose to an aroma like parmesan cheese with a green earthy touch.
Puntagave
Puntagave Artisanal produces ultra-premium tequila and mezcal. The company possesses a proprietary “Consistency of Character” through an extraordinary blend and “engineered process.” This process is achieved by the 2nd certified Maestro tequilero in the world, Guillermo Barroso Arnaud. His endeavor to produce the ultimate taste profile involved producing, experimenting, and revising up to 52 batches to get to the desired tasting profile. The mindset is to produce the truest form of Tequila and Mezcal, emphasizing on a high-agave taste profile, even in the aged expression.
Puntagave Rustico is a line of microclimate, terroir-driven spirits of Mexico. The brand focuses on a “complexity of character” rather than the “consistency of characters.” Every controlled denomination of Puntagave Rustico is a unique product of a specific origin, micro-climate, time, and method of production. Older bottles were labeled under the brand name Colectivo Regional instead of Puntagave.

668 reviewsHaven’t seen this brand around for a while. My bottle is more than half gone at this point so it has had time to “mellow out”. A few years back, it was incorrectly priced at under $40/bottle which is a steal for this tasty raicilla. Delicate at 44% with notes of milk chocolate, buttercream, and a bit of orange creamsicle. There is a slight toothpaste bite on the finish. For me, many raicillas aren’t something you’d return to multiple times in one sitting – this one is. It is very approachable while retaining some nice funk. The bottle doesn’t really have any batch info.

1 reviewI admit I haven’t tried a raicilla before, but I really enjoyed the Puntagave. It is smooth and floral, with a hint of mint. Recommend!

7 reviewsI bought Puntagave’s Sotol first and it was decent but didn’t blow me away. I was somewhat hesitant to try the Raicilla since it’s a bit more expensive but Puntagave says it’s their “In house favorite” so I decided to give it a shot. I was NOT disappointed. I haven’t tried a lot of Raicillas that I’m crazy about but I really enjoy this one. It packs a ton of flavor. Fruity, creamy, and a very distinct but pleasant cheesy aftertaste. I definitely recommend giving this one a shot.
