A little bit tough for me to score this one, since it’s my first barrel aged mezcal. 2019, Lote MSR-001. Floral aroma with pretty minimal smoke. I don’t get much of the oak barrel either on the nose or palate, which I think is likely due to the untoasted barrels being used. Sweet finish that doesn’t linger. I enjoyed this one, decent sipper, and look forward to trying other aged expressions in the future with this as my reference point.

Not a bad sipper at all. Notes of citrus and cinnamon. Oily and rich on the tongue. Woody finish. Lacks punch and clarity at only 80 proof. Lot MSR-007 from 2015. I would probably give it another half star, but I prefer jovens over reposados and anejos.

For sipping it’s not bad – floral, pleasant, and slightly aged tasting. It’s been really good in cocktails, especially more fruit forward ones like margaritas and Paloma’s. Sticking to cocktails with this one. Not exceptional but solid.

Better than the Sacrificio joven. Still quite muted in comparison but a bit more flavor with notes of soft bitter chocolate, honey, spring water, and lemon. This would probably be good in a cocktail. Lot MSR-008 from 2016.

Lot MSR-008. Very floral for a reposado. Doesn’t quite taste like a typical reposado as it’s much brighter and vibrant. The reposado from most other mezcal companies is done in charred barrels, and I think the uncharred element of the Sacrificio aging really makes a key difference. This is a very unique reposado. I like this 100 times more than the Sacrificio Joven. This is good for cocktails and sipping.
