Tio Pesca Arroqueno is an ancestral mezcal made by hand with the wild maguey Arroqueno in the town of Sola de Vega, Oaxaca, Mexico.
About this mezcal
Tio Pesca Arroqueno is made with wild maguey Arroqueno (agave Americana) in the remote town of Sola de Vega, Oaxaca. The town of Sola de Vega is known for its clay pot distillation, and this clay-pot distilled mezcal is made by maestro mezcalero Fernando Mitra. The agave are cooked in an underground pit oven, crushed by hand with mallets, fermented in Sabina wood vats, and double distilled in clay.

29 reviewsLost notes on batch number etc., but this is probably the nicest arroqueno I’ve had. Love what the clay distillation seems to bring to it.

2 reviewsDelicious, with strong but very sweet notes that make the mezcal show a different essence than other Arroquenos, I believe that this brand is offering a different and innovative proposal.

Nose: Chocolate covered cherries. Leather.
Palate: First sip was amazing. The taste went gradually but distinctly from sweet to smoky to salty – smooth on the way down, warm and comforting in the belly. Picking the notes – I get chocolate covered pretzel. Cojita cheese. Nice bit of clay notes on the finish but love the sweet/smoke/saline balance. Great stuff!

1 reviewI tried Tio Pesca Arroqueno first as a small tasting bottle then liked it so much I bought a full bottle. It has an incredible breadth of flavor, starting smooth and almost sweet and opening into a mild heat that’s pleasant to sip throughout an evening. One of the top 5 mezcal’s I’ve tried

78 reviewsAroma of marinated feta and olives. Boozy heat up front in the mouth followed by provolone, leather, and menthol. Turbinado sugar sweetness coats the tongue and roof of the mouth. Toasted oak leaves the mouth feeling full on the finish. Of the expressions I’ve had from the Tio Pesca line-up so far, this is my favorite.

6 reviewsVery dynamic and moderately complex, overall, with sour and saline notes at the forefront. Nose includes orange, gentle smoke, sheltered ocean lagoon, dry resinous wood, and a warm sweetness. Palette is dominantly sour, but pleasantly so, and the orange has shifted toward grapefruit and lime. Salinity, slight clay, and slight sweetness offset and balance the sourness, while bay leaf and maybe coastal cypress join in to add some herbal complexity. Mouthfeel is sort of slippery, like water from an alkaline lake, which is sort of fun. Finish is fairly long and somewhat sweet, with the orange and wood notes returning. I noticed taste and smell changed significantly with each sip I took, so this is one to sit back and spend some time with.

734 reviewsBatch TPAR. From 2017. Bottle 120/253. Funky nose. A little sour. The palate is a little thin but still tasty. I’m not getting much clay on this, nor do I get the slate taste that I normally associate with Sola de Vega. Theres a bit of salinity. I tasted this alongside the Tio Pesca Coyote is this was my favorite of the two by far.
