About this bacanora

Yoowe Bacanora is made by Maestro Ramon Miranda in the village of Alamos in southern Sonora. This Bacanora is made from agave Angustifolia Haw (maguey Pacifica). The agave is cooked in a traditional underground oven with mesquite and oak. After a wild fermentation, there are two distillations in stainless/copper stills.

Yoowe

Yoowe is from Sonora, Mexico, an area rich in the history of agave distillation. Yoowe is a continuation of this history, as the spirit of Bacanora is beginning to attract more international appeal. They also produce a Palmilla, which is the local name for what other regions call Sotol.

April 2022; Lot 17. 47.5% ABV. Cheesy/lactic aroma. Plastic-y nose, then turns to a dusty texture with Runts candy meets Fireball candy flavor. Kind of a tequila pepper aftertaste. Nice journey on this one!

LOTE 6
04-20
Bottle 129/280
44.2% ABV
Initial nasal impact is slight prickle.
Aroma hits with lactic, molasses and a fresh sliced jalapeno. Maybe some bright citrus wants to peak through at the top of the glass, but it is smothered by dark spice.
Oily mouthfeel with generous alcohol.
Spicy mint, toasted fennel seeds and some minerality stand out on the flavor. Dark spice, pine resin (maybe sharp oak) and mesquite ash follow on a medium finish. A very reasonably priced bacanora

Lot 8 from 09/20 batch.
Smoky & stronger than expected. Mandarin & tropical fruits. Overall a bit hot though as I sipped through the 1.5 oz sample. 3.75 stars

I could be treating this bottle unfairly, after a couple of very intense mezcals. Nice aroma with pine and a bit herbal funk. Mint, quince and green pepper (piperaceae, not green chili). Medium aftertaste. Surprisingly strong for 43,5% abv.

This has a dusty library vibe and I’m enjoying it. Notes of fig, wet leaves, and smoked molasses. ABV has a bit more pop than expected. 43.5% Lot 4 from July 2019.

43.5% Lot 4 from July 2019. Spicy nose with a bit of sour funk. A little cheesy aroma mixing with peppercorns and jalapeño. Palate has mint, jalapeño, peppermint, and a bit of cream. I dig this.

Minty! Peppermint candy, anise flavors like fennel fronds and some fresh minerality like river rocks. I like this one a lot.
