Agave Mixtape Volume #3.
Clean and light with vanilla wafers, mango, powdered sugar, bubblegum, Watermelon Jolly Rancher, and honeydew melon. Delicious Miahuatlan Bicuixe!
I went back and forth with this one. Sometimes I like it a lot and other times not so much. Green and minty with a sweet pineapple like core. Spearmint, peppermint, fresh sugarcane juice, bitter cacao, wasabi, clove, pineapple, and banana. I found the small bottle a little sharp so in my opinion it benefited from the infusion.
Lot: CANESP001. Most of the reviews here don’t list the batch number but I’m pretty sure this is the same one that “meserole” posted about because “powdered sugar, vanilla frosting, and wet stone finish” really describes this well. As I’ve been drinking through this bottle I’ve tasted all kinds of other notes as well such as mango, pineapple, raspberry, strawberry soda, calamansi citrus, No2 pencil, and dark chocolate. Complex and very interesting. Excellent Espadin!
Edition 26, 2019. Nice Espadin from Don Goyo with big notes of sandalwood, bubble gum, mango, pineapple, and vanilla. At $45 a bottle this is a steal!
Not sure about the Lot #. This is a very clean and well balanced Mezcal! Lots of complex flavors! Allspice, vanilla bean, dry dirt, oak, dark brown sugar, and a flavor that reminds me of new car smell. I like this a lot!
Lot 0620. Very vegetal and tropical. Roasted Brussels sprouts, asparagus, jackfruit, barbecued pineapple, caramelized banana. Tasty.
Lot 1118. Aromatic and fruity! Incense, menthol, tiger balm, tamarind paste, and yes…I’m definitely tasting Fruit Loops cereal. Really good.
1 oz tasting, no Lot #. Really nice aromatic and green tasting Tepextate! Incense, fabric softener, cucumber, jalapeño, bell pepper, green olive, salted butter, and brown sugar. Tasty!
This is a really solid Mezcal but I think I was hoping that it would be more unique, like the other Amormata/Lamata offerings. Mint chocolate chip ice cream, banana, fresh jalapeño, fresh green bell pepper. Good stuff.
Lot: 0719A. When I was a kid my grandparents kept a glass bowl filled with Kraft caramel squares on the coffee table. When no one was looking I would grab handfuls of them and shove as many as I could fit into my mouth then slowly chew and let all that glorious caramel juice slide down my throat. Yum. This Mezcal is like that. Kraft caramel squares, dark Muscovado sugar, allspice, mahogany, and spearmint. I first had this Mezcal at Pujol Omakase Taco Bar in Mexico City as part of their Mezcal Taco pairing and it was my second favorite of the night. Interestingly when I first opened the bottle, the caramel notes were subtle but after sitting in my glass for awhile they got stronger and stronger.
1/2 ounce sample no Lot number. Four years ago this was my first Cupreata, and I loved it. Now I taste it again with a lot more experience and I still love it! Fresh jalapeño, cold crema, caramel, black licorice, and peppermint. Soft and light and delicious.
1oz sample no batch number. Jalapeño, spearmint, fresh green bell pepper, vanilla wafers, and rubbing alcohol. It’s a bit hot. Without that alcohol note it would be better but it’s still a solid Cupreata.
Christmas by a warm fireplace sipping a hot toddy and eating hot spiced apple pie. Nutmeg, baked apples, cinnamon, clove, allspice, brown sugar, vanilla bean, caramelized banana, anise, and stewed prunes. This is really delicious but there are absolutely no traces of Mezcal flavor left in this Pechuga.
Lot MAS-C 05-2019. Wow! Another unique offering from Amormata/Lamata! I’ve never had a Mezcal this dusty and ashy. Cigarette ashes, mothballs, freshly opened ancient tomb, dried mushrooms, decay, anise, cinnamon. Amid all of this ashiness there is something very green though like fresh crisp asparagus. This Mezcal is like the first green growth pushing out of a decimated, smoldering, volcanic landscape. I love it!
Didn’t get the Lot #. Tyler nailed it with the asparagus, celery juice and cotton candy notes. I also got freshly cut grass and some caramel.
Cloyingly sweet with intense artificial tropical fruit flavors. It tastes as if someone dumped a couple cases of Juicy Fruit gum and Starburst candy into the mix. Doesn’t taste like any Cuixe I’ve had before. Mango, banana, vanilla, papaya, fruity shisha tobacco, Hawaiian Bbq sauce. This one was almost 1.5 stars for me.
What a beautiful combination of the two Agaves! The Jabali up in front with the perfect amount of Bicuixe at the end. Floral and mineral with just a touch of fruit and spice. Honeysuckle, orange blossoms, vanilla ice cream dusted with cinnamon, salty caramel, river rocks, and black cherry. Reminds me of flowers blooming around a dried out salt encrusted ancient sea in the middle of the desert. Magic.
There’s a lot going on with this one. Really herbal and floral. I get lots of dryer sheet/fabric softener notes, but not in a bad way. Thyme, mint, sage, oregano, over ripe plums, burnt flowers, and red vines. I like this.
Lot 4. Maple syrup, banana, mango, orange creamsicle, brown butter, caramel, milk chocolate, and fresh jalapeño. Delicious!
SOT-C 10-06-2020. Like digging your hands into wet forest earth after a rain. Dirt, wet leaves, cinnamon, leather, lime aid, and spearmint. Reminded me of the Maguey Melate Cucharillo. Just the kind of earthy complex Sotol that I love!
