What a great mix of Agaves! It’s very green with lots of Tepextate flavor. Fresh jalapeño, peppermint, and cilantro. Also vanilla bean, bubblegum, banana, palm sugar, and drying tobacco leaves. This is really good.
There something really sweet and tropical about this Mezcla. I’m tasting guava, papaya, and candy canes. There’s a lot of clay as well that reminds me of an old adobe house. I can definitely taste the cinnamon and tree bark from the tasting notes and also some grapefruit on the finish. Tasty.
April 2019. Oh man this is so delicious!!! Delicate and floral with sweet dark dried fruits. Fig Newtons, Medjool dates, lavender, caramel, and dark brown sugar. Sometimes I also taste something like peaches, pears, and pound cake. This might be my favorite expression yet from Agave Mixtape. If only I could find a full sized bottle…
My favorite of the 3 new Leyenda expressions that I sampled. Clay distilled but very balanced and light on the clay. Root beer, Bbq brisket, hot chocolate, prunes, brandied cherries, and wet dark clay. It’s a bit expensive at around $130 a bottle but it’s really good.
Wow. This Jabali is delicious! Dry roasted peanuts, frangipani flowers, mango, jasmine, pear, incense, and cake frosting. So good!!
Very green tasting with fresh Jalapeño, freshly cut green grass, tarragon, powdered sugar, and sawdust. Tasty.
Pretty salty but I like it. Raisins, table salt, cinnamon, brown sugar, leather, and candied orange peel. The more I had the more I liked it, I only had 1oz though.
Reading the other reviews I thought I would hate this but I don’t. The flavors somehow aren’t over the top artificial tasting to me. It’s definitely a citrus bomb. Ruby red grapefruit, navel orange, meyer lemon, grenadine. It’s the Sunny Delight of Mezcal, except there’s no trace left of any Mezcal flavor. I could probably sip this on ice by the pool on a hot day, and I have never before said that about a Mezcal. As Tyler said “Citrus Mezcal” would be more accurate than Pechuga. Like Soloagave’s friend I would have guessed citrus vodka in a blind tasting.
Easily my favorite of the four that I tried. This is really good. Floral and clean and light. Almost weightless on the tongue. Fresh white roses, fresh basil leaf, cinnamon, cold green grapes, fresh jalapeño, honeydew melon, and kiwi with a very long warm cinnamon finish. I love this one!!
This reminds me of Cherry Garcia ice cream! Vanilla wafers, pound cake, brandied black cherries, and dark chocolate. There is a bit of alcohol burn and a watery mouthfeel that I didn’t like but all in all it’s a tasty Mezcal.
This one is a little hot but it grew on me. The Cuishe and Arroqueño dominate the mix. Red hots, cinnamon sticks, over ripe pineapple, and vanilla ice cream. Very tasty.
This is the expression that I was most looking forward to after loving the Maguey Melate from Hermogenes Vasquez García which was from the same area, but it was my least favorite of the four expressions that I sampled. It’s still well made though. Very one note, I got a lot of pineapple flavor and menthol. Cut grass and a slight earthiness that reminded me of Ancho chilies.
Lot 1. Dusty like an ancient library with old leather bound books, star anise, candy canes, sandalwood, thyme, fresh plums, and a taste like new car smell and dryer sheets. It’s light and balanced and flawless. This is a beautiful unique spirit crafted by a master distiller, my second favorite Sotoleros expression.
Lots of different citrus notes. Tangerines, Satsumas, Oranges, incense, and peppermint Altoids. This is quite good and very similar in flavor to his Clande Ensambles.
This is an excellent Tobala. After six years in glass the flavors are very well integrated and just plain delicious. Sandalwood, banana bread, chocolate chips, and fresh mint. This is a definite crowd pleaser. I’m absolutely blowing through this bottle.
Just poured my last cup of this and realized that I never reviewed it! I’m totally getting the leather and eucalyptus from the other reviews but also a lot of pineapple. Roasted and caramelized pineapple. Yum! Picked this up at the Vago tasting room in Oaxaca.
Lot 2. Very fruity, but not the usual fruits. Very custardy. I definitely get the Mamey that is listed in the description, also papaya, cherimoya (custard apple), guanabana (soursop), something vegetal like artichoke, and a chocolate milk finish. There’s also something perfumey like walking past the perfume counter in a department store. Very interesting and delicious.
Lot 2. Very piney and herbal. Pine needles, thyme, sage, rose petals, and something that reminds me of strawberry-rhubarb pie filling. Another tasty and interesting expression from Sotoleros. 4 Stars.
Lot 5. Completely different than Lot 2. It tastes the way that new sneakers smell and it also tastes like the smell when you open a can of tennis balls. I’ve tasted these flavors in Mezcal before but never this intense. This batch is not for me. 2 Stars.
Lot 2. A lush garden after a rainstorm, farmland next to the ocean, a waterfall deep in a redwood forest. It’s spirits like this that make me regret giving 5 stars to others. A masterpiece.
UPDATE: Lot 3 is not as good. If you can, get Lot 2.
Salty caramel and baking spices!! Grey salt, caramel popcorn, clove, allspice, pineapple, alfalfa, spearmint, and graphite. Everything I’ve tried from this brand has been good and this is no exception.
