CUP 3/19 49.6%
Nose: smells aggressive in a good way. I find that sometimes the capon process kicks up the horsepower on certain agaves. Astringent with a hint of fresh nopales.
Palate: a little neutral grain spirit taste, followed by some sweetness and light pepper. Definitely evolved over time and is super interesting. Like someone else said, hard to identify the main note, but again, in a good way. Almost tastes like a Weber but with way more character.
Finish: numbing, light oil, and a little desiccant.
Very interesting spirit. Not my favorite, but not my least favorite either. A pretty solid offering of a neutral agave in my mind.
Batch VICPAP 03-21
Bottle 10/260
Nose: light butter cream agave, slightly floral with some green vegetal hints. It just smells so wonderful it takes a while to take the first sip.
Palate: again, sweet green vegetal notes with a good viscosity to it. Earthy and a little doughy tasting, like a sweet tortilla de harina cheesecake (if that is a thing).
Finish: long finish with a warming character and a slight oil tinge. Lingers for quite a while.
I love cupreatas like this, as they almost remind me of a dessert wine. Not quite as good as Benigno’s version, but definitely one I will buy anytime I can get it.
12-22
Lot 46Candied nopales, a little bit of burnt celery, that sweet funkiness that a good raicilla delivers, green peppers
Palate: sugary jicama, sour funk, a little bit of metallic funk and cambert cheese.
Finish: Thick, viscous mouthfeel and lasting savory taste. A feint numbing quality that makes you want to go back and immediately taste it again… and again until the bottle is gone. Whoops!
Nov 22 Lot: DS034-?
I have always loved this expression, so I bought another bottle today.
Nose: sweet roasted pineapple with toasted almonds, hint of black pepper and ocean, candied jalapeños
Palate: still some mild jalapeño and tropical fruits, with a little bit of sea water iodine and buttered brie. So much going on which is what makes this mezcal so amazing and consistent every time.
Finish: lovely linger, kind of like hanging out after a concert and not wanting to go home at the end of the night. Good viscosity and oiliness. Baked apple on the end with crispy corn tortilla after taste.
By far one of my favorites and a pretty decent price point for the quality. I have bought bottles for way more that I liked way less haha
One of the best Tequilana’s I have had. You can taste the authenticity of the product and what tequila truly was when it was made in this fashion.
Nose: sweet agave with some roasted honeysuckle, green herbs, and a hint of earthiness
Palate: Tangy/sweet lime; roasted agave comes through wonderfully and you feel like you are a part of the roasting process without the smoke, hint of menthol for a slight second, more fruits and nopales.
Finish: Coats the mouth with warmth and sweetness. I will seek this bottle out again and would purchase many for my friends to have an introduction into what Tequila should taste like. Fantastic spirit
I had this bottle several months ago and was blown away by how amazingly funky it was.
Nose- funk, cheese, dawn patrol on the ocean, green veggies, dusty rocks
Palate- smoky blue cheese blueberry cheesecake, orange peel, agave sweetness, and more funk
Finish lingers and oils the mouth. I can still taste this today and it brings me back to enjoying this underneath a backyard palapa in the extreme summer heat. One of my favorites and so unique.
