Nose – Tiger Lily and rock candy. Aromas are subtle.
Palate – Light potpourri. Grilled cactus. A salty and vanilla sweet finish that I quite enjoyed. Flavors blend nicely. đ
Nose – Leather. Cobblestone. Slight latex.
Palate – Pine wood. Honeydew melon. Wet stone. A bit of clay. Flavors just don’t jive together very well.
Nose – Floral and salty. Not appealing.
Palate – Too much potpourri. Too perfumed. Not a big fan.
Nose – Incredibly weak aromas. Almost undetectable but barrel notes are there (slight toffee really is all I get).
Palate – Great hit of dark dried fruit (black currants, raisins). Vanilla extract. Mandarin orange.
Disappointments aromas but great flavor.
Nose – Light Mandarin orange, toffee and oak. Weak intensity aromas.
Palate – Pine wood sap to start. Then straight up toffee. An offputting transition but the finish is long and more pleasant as the toffee shines through. Starts so-so, finishes pretty well.
Nose – Vanilla extract. Mandarin orange. A nice bit of banana.
Palate – Light viscosity. Dialed back heat for 47% abv. Pink salt. Rose petal. Banana cream pie. Cocoa.
Enjoyed this!
Nose – Slight jerky meatiness. Powerful campfire aroma.
Palate – Anaheim pepper. Overcooked carne asada. Underlying rough latex notes. Bitter finish.
Had better, had worse.
Nose – Powdered sugar. Orange Tang. A backyard garden note I can’t specify, but nice!
Palate – Vanilla bean. A tad spicy. A carrot top green flavor. Cantaloupe. Mocha coffee grind bitterness. Great stuff!
Nose – Arnold Palmer (not the man, I never got close enough to have a whiff, his iced tea and lemonade drink). Charred oak.
Palate – Starts off slow, almost a 3 second delay thinking: this is pretty light. Then: POW! Bold key lime pie (extra sweet and citrus) flavor (and a tad creamy) Medium viscosity. Celery leaf. Dried black currant. Long finish of dried fruit, wood ember and sweet citrus.
Fan-f’n-tastic mezcal!
Nose – Lemon. Rose water. Birch bark. Wet cobblestone.
Palate – Sweet, pink lemonade (predominantly). Grapefruit peel. Snow peas. Some leather. Oak ember finish.
Sugary, citrusy and a tad funky. Rock solid mezcal!
Nose – Newman’s Lemonade (my fav). Charcoal. Tiniest bit of anise.
Palate – Tangy, fruity, sugary sweet. Amazing start! Lime juice. Orange peel. Lactic in the finish. This stumbles in the finish in general. Quite bitter (possibly the colas I’m picking up on?) and some alcohol burn roughness.
Fantastic mezcal at the start, mediocre finish.
Nose – Cigar ash. Canned peaches. Half and half cream.
Palate – Creme Brule. A tad grassy. Quite ashy.
Nice sweet, creamy taste. Ash heavy notes through out (off balanced the wrong direction).
Nose – Very fruit forward. Tropical. Dried banana. Slight jerky note.
Palate – Dates. A bit too heavily perfumed, for a lack of a better term. I enjoyed this but I don’t think it’s particularly good for the price.
Nose – Brown sugar. Baked apples. Dates.
Palate – Banana cream. Cinnamon candy. Slight grassy note. Nice, slick texture. Booming tropical fruit finish. Premium juice!
Batch: JAME1122 49.4% ABV.
Nose: Lightly fried sweet onion & jalapeno. Olive oil. Subtle cake frosting.
Palate: Powdered sugar and then a very delay lactic/creaminess. Love it! Actually, more buttery than straight creamy. Cocktail onion. Turkey jerky. Balanced vegetal heat and sweet notes.
Great stuff from this brand so far!!
Nose – Powdered sugar. Jalapeno. Aroma of sweet n’ heat.
Palate – Similar to the nose, nice (sharp!) candied, sugary jalapeno flavor. Cigar ash joins in for a long finish. Great tepeztate. This was a 2 oz. pour at Madre back in August (I took good notes, haha).
Nose – A bouquet of sublte, delcious aromas – Rock candy. Wet, fern leaves. 7up. Clay.
Palate – Leather. Oak, campfire ember. Wintergreen. Mixed dried fruit in the finish. Nice texture, slightly fizzy feeling.
Batch: JALU1122. Bottle 33/764.
Nose – Watermelon Jolly Rancher. Slight nail polish. A tiny, sour clay note.
Palate – A hint of canned corn flavor. Subtle celery leaf. Didn’t get much clay. Feels hotter than the 48,4% ABV. The finish has a harshness to go along with the heat.
This isn’t too vegetal or sweet but those are the main flavors I pick up. This is overshadowed by a harsh finish. I’ve tried much better espadin capon that punch with much more flavor. Comme ci, comme ca.
Batch: JAEC1122, Bottle: 72/388 48.4% ABV
Nose – Red Vines licorice. Slight white wine aroma.
Palate: – Creamy! This is by far the predominant note but with really nice vanilla & white chocolate sweetness and oaky embers weaved in. Long woody finish, on the dry side.
I visited Jose’s palenque a few years ago and this expression really brings me back. He has such a distinct style to his mezcales. Love this one!
Nose – Baked Granny Smith apple slices. Slightly, pleasantly sour. Clay aroma.
Palate – Milk chocolate mousse. Brown sugar. Subtly sour. Oak ember. Sprite soda. Soft, medium viscosity. Feels like a 43-44% ABV heat wise but clocks in at 48.3%. Full flavor just less heat, very nice!
Batch JAEN1122, Bottle 22/782.
