Pineapple and ash. Smell is horse blanket and salty beach. Finish has some sweet mango/pineapple with burnt marshmellow. The strong smoke and over roasted notes keep me from giving this any more stars
Acetone and sharpie/gasoline. Glad I didnt spring for the full 375ml. Oof
Havent had many pulquero varietals. This one may be near the top, however. Mostly echo what others have said. Some oil/stickiness on the palate. Finish has a slight wet dog type of thing going on. Overall enjoyable
Am I wrong or was this distilled with a turkey breast over the still? Because I get zero turkey…. however… the rest of this is pretty great. Kentucky Colonel Mint, coriander, maybe a little of adobo or plain chipotle type pepper on the finish. Closer to 4.25
Sample from Paul Dutton/Agave Fairy! Thanks! Limestone/clay like earth. Campfire with molasses and brettanomyces-like funk. Very subtle. Diggin this more than the Tuxca
Mint mint mint! Maybe some chocolate and turbinado too. Viscous on the mouthfeel, but not overwhelming in flavor or bite. An absolute winner imo
Edit: broke down and bought a bottle. 2nd time was much much better. Classic earthiness meets savorty huitlacoche-type notes. Some kiwi thrown in there as well. Wowsers. Unlike any mezcal ive had before
Part of a self made flight at Suerte, in Austin. Had two chacolos, the RM San Martinero and this one. This was my least favorite of the 4. I like my mezcals more light, grassy, ans fruit forward tbh… and I think this one is just not my bag. Got a lot of funky metal and some musty plastic… almost like an old tarp. It was oily and the heft was perfect in my mouth, but I just didnt love this one. Glad I didnt buy a bottle.
Fruit stand nose, rauchbier and lemon on the palate, in addition to lollipop (strawberry flavor) and some campfire on the finish. Wonderful
Peaches and cream. Oregano, some wet rock, and a hint of mint. Really awesome. Takes your mouth on one heck of a ride.
Closer to 4.75 for me. One of the most interesting espadins ive had the pleasure of getting my hands on. Coats the mouth like a fine wine . Some minerality and sweetness on the palate, with bursts of citrus and umami. Was not expecting this at all. Finish is long… like a fine cigar pull. Outstanding!
Lalo is still one of my favorite producers. Candied yams, passionfruit and juicy fruit gum. Wonderful
I get a green ripeness from this one. Maybe like a green banana or unripe avocado? Tough to nail down. After the initial blast of green must, comes melons and tobacco. Finish lingers a little, with some faint rauchbier/bacon notes. Fun indeed
Fresh cut grass, lemon, bubblegum (get that in a lot of Tobalas) and some sawdust. Short finish, well rounded. Nothing off putting at all, but also not really noteworthy in the tobala realm. Average
Solid lil Espadin. Thanks to Agave Fairy for the dram! Some clove, coriander, and molasses. Wisp of smoke throughout. Reminds me of a poor mans DM Chichicapa.
Nose is fun. Horse blanket mixed with citrus and grape must. Taste is completely different. Acrid, burnt wood, slight sweetness. Finish is wincing and harsh. I would have never guessed this was a tobala varietal if you would have asked me, blind.
Pine resin, burnt anise and heartburn. This is not the raicilla you are looking for. Move along.
Leather, sugarcane, mint. Maybe some Dr Pepper in there somewhere. Huge fan
What Jonny said. Definite pepper jack nose, taste is full of kiwi, pear, and slight chili powder. Complex, slightly sweet, smooth. Chacolo is on a damn roll
Citrus, marshmellow, and cacao. Really really awesome. It seems that Chacolo hits notes that are hard to find for other distro’d destilados in the US. Musty without being funky, if such a thing is even possible. Wow
Sticky toffee pudding, grapefruit, burnt sugar. Really interesting. Maybe some chocolate in there, i dunno. Complex with a lot going on but pretty well integrated.
