Shockingly good, especially since I didnt care for their other two offerings. One of the better agave spirits ive had. Def. would give to someone who is more of a tequila fan or is having their first foray into mezcal. Its smooth, complex, and has strong notes of caramel, toffee, oak, and butterscotch.
I typically dont care for aged mezcals, but this may change my mind. The best aged mezcal ive had, easily. Price isnt terrible either
Dont get the love for this. Very little smoke, not many flavors you would find in other mezcals. Closer to a tequila
Wish I could give this one 3.5 stars. Closer to 4 stars if you take out the price, 3 stars for the price. I personally prefer Del Magueys Tobala and others to this one, especially at $160, but this is ok. Kind of a funky, cheese taste that I have yet to find in other Tobala’s. If you were to blindfold me, I would have thought this was a Raicilla.
Solid barril offering. Like it more than some of EJs others. Pricey, but not sticker shocked based on batch size.
Its hot.. maybe a little too hot. Tastes more like 120 proof instead of 100. Not much difference than the unaged version, even if it spent 13 months in oak. Also, its def. overpriced at $115 a bottle. Not sad I bought one, but wont be buying another. They need to refine/retool this one for sure
Excellent sotol, especially considering it’s the first commercially produced American Sotol. May be a little overly herbal, but other than that, no complaints.
I dont get why this is rated a little low. Taste is of exactly what it is… an Iberico Pechuga. Fun to try, good story behind it, would def drink again and again if offered but too rich for my blood to buy a bottle
The first mezcal I ever had. Solid for an espadin expression. Always good to have a bottle on hand
Very strong. Perfect balance of meat and smoke. Its $200 a bottle in Houston, so not sure its worth buying a full bottle over, but would absolutely try a pour if youve never had it
One of my favorite mezcals. The standard to which I judge all other Tobala’s. Also, my favorite from DM
Underrated. My favorite from Mezcalero. Maybe more so than #2. Unbelievable nose and a full bodied punch packed with fruit, earth, campfire, spice, and even, dare I say, masa. Cant believe there are still bottles of this sitting on shelves at certain places
Soft, but not too soft. Floral with a nice tobacco/umami finish dotted with a trace linger of sweet bell pepper. Very good, but maybe a tad overrated. Not the best mezcal ive had, but def. in the upper echelon. Worth seeking out for sure. 4.5/5
Above average, grassy. Clean. Dont remember too much because this was the 37th mezcal/tequila during the tasting
Not overly complex, sweet smell with notes of jalapeno and pepper. Taste is one-note with little to no finish
Very good, surprisingly so. Earthy with a mineral finish. Best ive had from them
May be the best ive had from RC. Worth the price tag/hunting down. Delicate, soft, with wisps of smoke and a few floral notes. Could drink a bottle of this in a few hours
