Lot No.: ENSEGV2004
Nose: Celery. Soft leather. Cherry. Icing sugar.Palate: Rockets/Sweet Tarts Halloween candy – the sweet aspect of it but not nearly as tart. Rubber. Slightly numbing in the mouth feel. Nice cigar finish. Picking up celery in the aftertaste.
Nose: Bailed hay. Candy cane. Chocolate.
Palate: Sweet and spicy – a candied, roasted jalapeno flavor. Sweetness fades fast in the finish and it becomes bitter. A lingering warmth in the aftertaste.
This one starts strong but loses its luster in the end.
Nose: Magic marker. Barrel-aged vanilla. I like the capon aspect – it does have a slight, sweet aged smell like over ripe fruit.
Palate: A black licorice bitterness. Not sure it’s from resting in the stainless steel for so long, but it has a heavy metallic bite to it. Finish is hot for 45% with chemical-rich notes (surface cleaner).
I really dug the nose but tasting this was quite a letdown.
Lot No. 00120
Nose: Damp. Peanut shells. Green apple. A smallest hint of feta cheese.Palate: A bit of black licorice. Rosewater. Veggie sweet but bitter, dry and somewhat sour in the finish.
Batch: MBR00119
Nose: Cinnamon and nutmeg. Virtually no smoke.Palate: Baking spices – cinnamon especially – comforting and Christmas-y. Smooth mint flavor and subtle cheese cake.
This is incredible… absolutely love this!
LOTE: 0815816 (Barrel: 1300, Bottle: 45)
Nose: Sour cherry. Grassy.Palate: Weeds and a hint of vanilla. The barrel resting does nothing to help this. Stingy and vapory mouthfeel and oddly the flavors taste watered down even at 38% ABV. Hot and stiff finish and aftertaste – anti-smooth.
LOT# LM019
Nose: Vintage tennis shoe rubber. Citrus (Sugary Orange Tang). Tiny bit of butterscotch.Palate: A modest creamy sweetness to it. Light and consistent the whole way through with the right amount of smoke. Salted toffee lingering in the aftertaste. Pretty good espadin especially at the price point.
Batch: MGR00119
Nose: A booming minty sweet heat.Palate: Junior mints. Funky cream cheese. Limestone. The heat and intensity builds all the way through to a great, scorching finish. It’s not until a minute after when things cool off when I pick up salted caramel (that some other reviewers noted). Love the 54% ABV – full of flavor!
LOTE: I2992
Nose: Light on the nose. Not terribly smoky and the sweet component is subtle cherry lemonade.Palate: Savory – not much sweetness in there. A dash of vanilla possibly. Mouthfeel is cool – a medium viscosity and oily. Smoke is very pronounced in the finish. Overall, the traditional agave flavors are light but the smoke is dialed up. It’s OK but I feel that a higher ABV could do this more justice.
Lote No: 2
Nose: Vibrant floral nose.Palate: Peppermint gum sweet and heat. Black licorice. Spinach. A hard water, mouth feel. Catching a slight dandelion/weed note that messes up some of the other good stuff going on. I agree with some of the other reviewers on the astringent finish. Good but not great.
Lot No. 19-14566 CR-04
Nose: Citrus sweet – a tad of vanilla.Palate: Rubber. Raw sugar. Heavy smoke profile but nice. Overall, it’s decent – slightly rough on finish.
Lot: D-01-2020
Nose: Crème brule. A good, cheesy funkiness to it.Palate: Entry is an incredible, soft sweetness. Cinnamon. Clay notes are awesome. Very gentle to start but gets hot in the finish. Aftertaste of light smoke and tropical punch candy. Excellent!
Nose: An intoxicating earthiness – wet soil and a humid, lush jungle.
Palate: The texture is amazing – very soft, pillowy mouth feel. Baking spice sweetness. The smoke seems dialed up in the finish and a bit bitter. Lingering aftertaste surprise of birthday cake sweetness. A very cool ride with this one!
Nose: Big time watermelon. Very herbal. Stinging sweet vapors.
Palate: Cool mouth feel – coats well but not too viscous. Watermelon bubblegum. Salted light butter. Tobacco finish with a lingering melon sweetness. Good stuff!
Lot No. 01119
Nose: An aged/slightly rotting veggie sweetness to it, but in a good way.Palate: Sugar-roasted green bell pepper – if there even is such an awesome thing? Vegetal and a quality smoke profile. A cool minerality to it. Finish is a hint hot.
Batch: 29CDIG02 (2017-Ed:08-Bottle:119/498)
Nose: Dizzying bubblegum sweetness.Palate: Seems more refined than other cenizos I’ve tried. Dialed back on the funk but it still lingers in the shadows. Dark chocolate and a bit of cream cheese. Finish has notes of a pear-marinated, pork jerky – sweet, salty and a bit meaty. Overall = solid!
Batch No.: IV/20 Bottle No.: 12/300
Nose: Smoke is super sweet and has a tingling effect like pop rocks. Picking up that brand-new, athletic store rubber too. Great nose!Palate: Honey sweet. A slight milkiness to it, medium viscosity. Finish has an awesome, hot-spicy heat to it – the perfect amount. All around this stuff is incredible!
Nose: A hint of aged, cojita queso. Strong personality on the nose, the sweet, smoky vapors are very asserting.
Palate: A floral sweetness. Nutty and salty. Great limestone/earthy tones. Finish is long, smoky with a seawater aftertaste.
Nose: Saddle leather. Cinnamon and spice / apple-type cake.
Palate: Incredible mouth feel – slightly tingling like the bubbles in a can of soda. A hint of chocolate. Finish is super long – sweet, spicy (not peppery but more baking spices) and the right amount of saltiness.
This was a 1 oz sample that went way too quick. This stuff rocks!
