Nose – Baked granny smith apples. Powdered sugar. Sour red grape.
Palate – Funky & fruity. Apple sour candy. An interesting finish – charred oak, pine needle and dry apple cider.
Nose – Slight mustiness. Fresh mandarin orange. Balinese orchids.
Palate – Vanilla extract. Tiger lily. Orange citrus. Clove. An aftertaste of a dryer sheet aroma (sorry, haven’t gone chawing on Bounce). Several aromas here I am picking up as actual flavors which is interesting. There is this lingering septic tinge to it that makes it stumble in the finish.
Batch: JOS-PAP-001
Nose – Cream soda. Cinnamon. Baked apple slices.Palate – Very sweet. Candy apple. Black licorice. Aftertaste is a tart and a bit sour (apple cider like). Overall, still pretty solid.
Nose – Baked brie. Dried apricot. 7UP soda.
Palate – Amazing mouthfeel – soft, slick and viscous. Papaya. Very tropical. White pepper heat. Cigar wrapper. Not meaty for me until the finish. An extremely long finish/aftertaste of barbequed lamb strips.
I BEGGED Edgar for a small bit to take home – he and Elisandro sorted me out with a 200 mL flask. They are so proud that this was made for Steven Sadri’s (Tahona Mercado) wedding. I’ll cherish every drop of this exceptional mezcal!
Tried it at the Tosba palenque, tasted about 2 oz. w/ Edgar.
Nose – Tropical fruit – mango, papaya.Palate – Dried banana. Vanilla extract. Tobacco leaf.
Fantastic mezcal although Edgar only had a few ounces to share. I’ll be searching for this bottle here!
Bought a half liter at their palenque.
Nose – Ancho chili pepper. Dried pineapple.Palate – Fruitier (and more tropical) than most tepeztates and I love it! Papaya. Dried cherry. Sprite soda. A pleasant spiciness in the finish. Frickin’ great mezcal.
Batch: SAN-JAB-001
Nose – Vanilla. Roasted chicken breast. Sweet n’ meaty!Palate – Similar to the aromas, I got flavors here of vanilla. Chicken jerky. Mesquite. A nice herbal note in the aftertaste. MM really nailed both their Jabali expressions in this release (the German is bomb as well!).
Bought a half a liter at the Tosba palenque.
Nose – Raw mushroom. Roasted turkey breast. Apple slices.Palate – Deli smoked turkey. Baking chocolate. Dried banana. Cinnamon spiced apple. Baked potato. This pechuga is something else, frickin great sipper.
Nose – Dried pineapple. Dried apricot. Asiago cheese. Apple cider.
Palate – Slick, medium viscosity. Mango. BBQ grilled pineapple. Smoked gruyere. I love this stuff!
Bought at their palenque in Matatlan.
Nose – Chalk. Crab grass.Palate – Crab grass (again). Canola oil. A big kiwi fruit note. Finish is candy/sugary and medical. This is about 4.25 stars but the value bump downward since this bottle is a pretty penny.
Batch: 2020 (bought at their palenque in Matatlan)
Nose – Sour, tart green apple. Half and half cream.Palate – Ashy entry. Olive oil. Baked Granny Smith apple. Brown sugar. The sweetness really hits midway. Ash and charcoal in the finish. Honest heat for 51%. Frickin’ delicious stuff!

Nose – Candy apple. A hint of ethanol.Palate – Medium viscosity. Vanilla cream. Big time tobacco leaf. Charred oak finish. A quality mezcal.
Tried three different tobala at the RM palenque. Their normal offering but then two more special batches where they brought the Tobala in from Sola de Vega in one expression and Miahuatlan in the other. But all made the same way in their palenque. This 3x side by side was exceptional – an incredible way to try and hone in on the respective terrior. The Miahuatlan Tobala was the winner, possibly tasting more like Fruit Loops then actual Fruit Loops. My appreciate for Real Minero after this visit went through the roof!!
Tried at the RM palenque tasting room. This was 51% and rock solid. Roasted, sugary agave. Dried fruit. Orange slices. A hint of milk chocolate to complement the velvety clay in the finish. Edgar works espadin magic here.
Tried at the RM palenque tasting room. A mind bending mash of intense flavors (savory, sweet, clay, mesquite smoke). I like to be able to identify the different maguey in an ensamble but they were all muddled together flavorwise. But still awesome.
Tried at the RM palenque tasting room. Very pronounced tepeztate (becuela) in the nose and initial flavors on the palate – green and vegetal. But then a lovely floral, clay and candy finish. An incredible ensamble!
Tried this at their palenque. Earth and stone notes. Thyme. Granny Smith apple. Sea salt in the finish. This expression was the first of many. I love Real Minero!!! 🤩
Tried this at their palenque at 47%. Overly green, sweetness was artificial and the finish ethanol. Extremely disappointing. 😞

Nose – Fruity punch. Grapefruit.Palate – A pleasant charred beef note. Fruity. Mesquite and clay in the finish. Honest punch for 50.7% ABV. I dig it!!!
Nose – Vegetal, jalapeño/green pepper-ish like a Tepeztate.
Palate – Vegetal again. Floral aspect of a karwinski intertwined. White pepper. More floral notes in the finish. Great stuff!
