Nose – Red apple. Vanilla cream.Palate – A quick blip of cotton candy. Big time butterscotch. Maple. Banana cream. Then lasting vanilla extract. Unlike any curpeata I’ve ever tried and it’s awesome!

Nose – Perfume aromas. Smoked turkey breast. Dusty.Palate – Turkey is distinguishable, have to dig deep to find it. Dried apple. Clove. Cinnamon. This is a decent pechuga, middle of the road but top shelf price though.

Nose – Light nose. Slight lavender and sage.Palate – Extra dry beef jerky. Sprite soda. Dry finish. Robust flavor for the listed ABV of 47% – it has the intensity of a low 50s ABV flavor wise (not heat wise). Pretty good Jabali, 1 oz. sample.

Nose – Cherry cheesecake. Celery sticks.Palate – Papaya. Hickory. Slightly lactic. Some light ethanol in the finish that knocks it down a peg. This was a 2 oz. pour maybe it needed to open up a bit more.
Nose – Cherry. Custard. Nutmeg.
Palate – Booming, sweet and rich flavors to start. Banana pudding. Very dry finish with a fun dips candy note on the aftertaste. This was just a 1 oz pour but this seems so complex I’m going to need more for a better assessment.đ
Nose – Birch twigs. Celery leaf. Fresh lime.
Palate – Slick mouthfeel. Dry grass. Sage. White pepper. Lime zest. Charred hickory. Very nice!
This was the Tobala de Cuero (cowhide fermentation) by Alberto Martinez.
Nose – Grape Kool-aid. Lavender.Palate – Thin mouthfeel. Orange marmalade. Big, BBQ notes. Charred Mesquite. Great stuff!!!
Bottle: 372
Nose – Sour, green apple. Dry pine wood. Rye bread.Palate – Spiced apple sweetness. Latex gloves. Used brake pad (just a clever way to say, slightly burnt rubber, yay me!). White pepper. Quite grassy in the finish. I like this one and love the fact the MM extended their reach into Chihuahua, so awesome!!!
Bottle: 135
Nose – Mesquite smoke. Turkey jerky. White grape juice. Dry grass.Palate – A pleasant, yet massive, tobacco leaf flavor to kick this sipping experience off. Green apple and generally fruitiness follows. Orange peel bitterness. But then that tobacco punch hits again and stays well into the aftertaste. The finish also has a sharp, pointed heat to it – not overwhelming or burning though. A great mezcal! This is a mezcal I envision an old cowboy sipping but not until after lighting a match on his stubble for his rolled-up cigarette.
Nose – Flower petals. Rolling tobacco. Candy sugar. A lactic note way in the background.
Palate – Floral. Candy sweet (but not overpowering). A little bit less than medium viscosity – but by no means thin. There is a subtle creaminess that is really nice! This expression is smokier than most but it’s great – a quality smoke. This ensamble is kick ass!
Nose – A bit more Karwinski notes for me here – floral, rain-soaked dirt. Some maraschino cherry.
Palate – Some of the Tepeztate comes through in terms of a green peppery spiciness in the background. I pick up a tickle of the sotol (cucharillio) and it really blends in well. White pepper heat. What I love about this is the exceptionally long-lasting, smooth, cigar flavor in the finish and aftertaste.
Nose – Sugar in the Raw crystals. Icing sugar. A slight spicy heat.
Palate – Green pepper. I like the heat on this – the right level of spicy (for me) and warm the whole way through. Quite sweet bordering on too sugary. Overall, this is tasty mezcal – perfect for dessert in my opinion!
Nose – Not sure what the Karwinski to Espadin ratio is here, but hot damn, the balance of agave flavors on the nose are dialed right in.
Palate – A pillowy, medium viscosity. Rock candy. Light potpourri. A hint of white chocolate. A creamy bake brie note. Deliciously ashy in the finish. Not hot to sip but toasty, warm in the belly – exactly what you want there. This stuff is crazy good!
Batch: AA016 Bottle: 70
Nose – Limestone. Clay. A pleasant, sweet grassiness.Palate – This one takes some time to take shape. A wild, fire-kissed grassiness to start and that was it for the first sip or two. I don’t drink a lot of sotol so I attribute this to when I found the smoke overwhelming when I first tried mezcal. But as it fades the flavors and complexity really pop. Pine. Anise. Oak. Clay. A milk chocolate sweetness lingers which is a similar note that I get from mezcal clay pots in Santa Caterina Minas. A nice, late bloomer here and as the old saying goes: it’s not where you start, it’s how you finish.

Nose – Pine needles. Very grassy.Palate – Thin viscosity but still somewhat slick. Big time campfire ash. Anise. Celery which makes it kind of bland at first. It takes a while for the aftertaste to kick in but then there’s the payout: a definite, dry, smoky meatiness to it. Also, pineapple citrus. Like campfire roasted, pineapple-marinated, chicken breast. This one is slow outta the gates but comes strong in the end.
Nose – Unreal aromas. Strawberry Starburst, flowers and a perfect hint of smoke.
Palate – Creamy, strawberry candy. Rose petals and a grassy element. A milky, candied element in the aftertaste. This is dynamite at first but the flavors are a bit overpowering and unrelenting – good thing they are awesome flavors though.
Lot: DS001-ECT (Sept. 2017) Bottle: 184/1858
Nose – Extremely well balanced between the tepeztate (sweet & spicy green pepper), cuishe (floral) and espadin (to round ’em out).Palate – The sweet aspect is like chewing two types of gum – classic bubble gum and Big Red (more cinnamon). Some movie theater popcorn salinity (and slight, slight butteriness) in the finish. Tangy, sweet and ideal heat. I really, really like this ensamble – very enjoyable.
Nose – Fresh cut pineapple. Light cream cheese. Slight smokiness.
Palate – Two memorable tasting notes from this: a smoky, Pina Colada cocktail and a quality, cigar wrapper flavor. This was a 2 oz. copita, didn’t get the batch number from the bartender. Great stuff!
Nose – Jungle soil. Jasmine flower.
Palate – Earthy and floral. This was a 2 oz. bar pour in a copita and I thought it was just OK for the price (somewhat flat actually). I didn’t get a batch number. I’ll definitely try a different batch in the future because I love the brand and so many people really enjoy this expression.
Nose – Papaya. Cinnamon.
Palate – Dried tropical fruit. Sharp flavor. A nice mezcal although some ethanol burn on the back end knocked it down a peg.
